What Must I Do To Be Saved?

The Bible tells us of God’s universal invitation through Christ Jesus to receive the forgiveness of our sins and find newness of life.  God made you in His image, fearfully and wonderfully, but through our sin we’ve corrupted that holy image and become guilty before a holy God and thereby separated from Him and lost.  Yet God was not content to leave us in that terrible condition, but HE sent His Son to be a Savior for all who will come to Him through faith.  Through his death the redemption price has been paid, through his resurrection we find hope for life eternal.  Have you answered the gracious call of God and entered into Christ?

Ephesians 2:8 - “for by grace you have been saved through faith.”  What we see in biblical conversion is someone’s convicted heart of faith stepping out in obedient submission to receive the saving power of God’s grace through Jesus.

What do we see in the New Testament that shows us how to respond by faith and be converted?

  1. Have you HEARD the Gospel?  Romans 10:17 - faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.  Hebrews 11:6 - without faith it is impossible to please Him…
  2. BELIEF: Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died and was raised on the third day?  Mark 16:16 - Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. John 8:24 - I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.”
  3. REPENTANCE: Are you willing to turn away from your sinful living and resolve to live the life Jesus calls you to?  Luke 13:3 - No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Acts 2:38 - And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  4. CONFESSION: Have you confessed your belief in His Name? Romans 10:9,10 - because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.  Acts 8:37 - And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
  5. BAPTISM: Have you been baptized for the forgiveness of your sins?  Acts 2:38 - And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  1 Peter 3:21 -  Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Galatians 3:27 - For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  Colossians 2:12 - having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.
  6. FAITHFULNESS: Will you resolve to be faithful to Him? Revelation 2:10 - …be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life.
